french toast casserole

Serves 10–12

Oven at 350ºF

Chill overnight

50 minutes

ingredients

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 cup packed brown sugar

2 tbsp corn syrup

1 loaf Challah bread

5 large eggs

1 1/2 cups half and half

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp Grand Marnier

1/4 tsp salt

instructions

1. In small saucepan, melt butter with brown sugar and corn syrup over medium heat, stirring until smooth. Pour into 13×9 baking dish.

2. Cut 1in slices from the bread (not using the ends) and trim crusts. Arrange in single layer in the baking dish, squishing to fit where necessary.

3. In a small bowl, whisk together eggs, half and half, vanilla, Grand Marnier, and salt until well combined. Pour evenly over bread layer in the baking dish.

4. Cover baking dish and chill overnight.

5. Preheat oven to 350º. Let baking dish come to room temperature.

6. Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes, or until edges are golden brown.
