STREUSELKUCHEN (CRUMB CAKE)

Serves 6–8

Oven at 350ºF

45 minutes

ingredients

4 tbsp soft butter

1/2 cups white sugar

1 egg

1 cup flour

1/2 cup milk

1 heaping tsp baking powder

pinch of salt

 

crumbs

1/4 lb butter

1 cup white sugar

1 1/2 cups flour

2 tbsp cinnamon

(double this recipe for extra crumbs)

instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350º. Grease 8×10 pan.

2. Cream butter; add sugar, egg, flour, milk, baking powder, and salt and combine until smooth. Pour into greased baking pan.

3. For crumbs: mix butter, white sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a bowl. Knead to form crumbs. Rub between hands to create an even distribution.

4. Sprinkle crumbs over the cake mixture.

5. Bake for 35 minutes. When finished, sprinkle with confectioner’s sugar.
